5 Steps to Prepare For a Nose Job

Step 1 – Weight out the risks and benefits related to the procedure. A

nose job can be the answer to dissatisfaction with your nose, but it

will not heal emotional issues that can be related but not central to

wanting to change your look. Is the expense, procedure, pain and

patience required during the healing process important enough to endure?

Pressure from others in never a good reason to endure a nose job so be

certain this is being done for your own reasons to the exclusion of

everyone else.

There are health risks to consider. Some of the most common are:

Possible Infection

Reaction to Anesthesia

Excessive Bleeding

Scarring that can interfere with nasal breathing

Depression – due to disappointing results

Step 2 – Do extensive research in your local area to find a quality,

qualified plastic surgeon to do the job. This should include

certifications from the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) or

the ABPS (American Board of Plastic Surgery) and a credible client base.

Trust is important not only during the surgical procedure but doing the

follow-up period as well. This trust can only be built be feeling

confident with the experience and credentials of the doctor.

Step 3 – Prepare for the day of the cosmetic surgery – Clear your work calendar

and schedule up to 2 weeks of “sick leave.” You may not need this much

time (most patience need a week) but in case of unforeseen conditions,

you will have the time already set aside to be able to deal with them

without work pressure.

Transportation to and from the clinic will also need to be arranged

since you will not be able to drive home after the nose job surgery.

Get a pre-written prescription ready because you won’t want to visit the

pharmacy immediately after the surgery, which is when you will need your

medication the most.

Step 4 – Prepare for the Recovery Period – This requires an initial 24

hours of bed rest and minimal activity for the first week. If you have

developed an active life style of regular exercise you will need to take

a sabbatical from this for up to 2 months. Patience who rush this phase

of the process can cause damage that may need a second surgery to

repair. Determine to be patient and follow the after care given by the

surgeon exactly.

Step 5 – Prepare Yourself Emotionally – Records show that 1 out of every

5 patience who undergo a rhinoplasty are disappointed in the result enough

to go through a second procedure in order to fine tune the first. If a

patient is not prepared emotionally when the bandages come off can cause

huge disappointment which may lead to depression. It can take up to a

year for a complete healing. Postpone any further decisions about a next

step until the healing is complete.
